The
Loyola Marymount Lions pounced early, humbling the North Dakota
Fighting Sioux in an 83-60 pummeling at the Karl Tyler Chevrolet
Montana Grizzly Invitational during the second day of round-robin
action Saturday.
The Lions had four starters reach double figures in scoring, but six bench players also saw considerable action.
The
Lions forced 18 North Dakota turnovers, with 16 of those turnovers
outright steals. On the offensive end, the Lions notched 21 assists and
outrebounded North Dakota 32-25.
Loyola
Marymount led by 17 at halftime and quickly extended the lead with
deadly shooting from all areas of the court, including a blistering
9-for-20 beyond the arc. The Lions shot 54.5 percent from the field
while holding North Dakota to 43 percent.
Guard
Vernon Teel scored 15, followed by 12 from Jarred DuBois. Forward
Patrick Mitchell scored 16 for the Fighting Sioux, while reserve
Spencer
Goodman scored 11.
North
Dakota, now 0-2 in the tourney, faces the Boise State Broncos, 95-82
losers to Montana in Saturday’s nightcap, in Sunday’s final round.
