I have been watching Montana Grizzly basketball games since 1954... (whew!) And...
The 42-point performance by Montana senior guard Anthony Johnson – who single-handedly led the Grizzlies from the edge of the abyss to a 66-65 win over the Weber State Wildcats for the Big Sky Conference title – was the greatest performance by a Montana Grizzly I have ever seen.
It's most possibly the greatest single-game performance I've seen on the college level by anyone.
Montana's championship victory of the 2010 Big Sky Conference over the Wildcats was the mark of a team that's made steady improvement on a game-by-game basis throughout the season.
But it was Johnson's confidence in his teammates, coaches and himself that have stood out over this season.
Having interviewed Johnson after every home game this year, I can attest that he voiced his belief in this team; it was something he repeated after every game... win or lose.
Now the Griz are where AJ said they'd be all season.
I wish the Montana Grizzlies the best as the Big Sky representative in the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
